Implements?

One thing I've wondered about lately... Where do you buy your implements?  We live in a small town. There are a few sexxxxy type shops somewhat near here, but I'm about 2 hours away from a major city. There is a lingerie store (dirtier kinkier?) than Victoria's Secret that's about 10 minutes from here, but I've never been there. I'd have to drive a little over an hour to get to a self-proclaimed "adult superstore."

Or are they an online preferable purchase items? I have googled, but I don't know what to look for. I don't want to be too brave and purchase something we aren't ready for. I don't even own a wooden hairbrush (yet) or wooden spoon!

And then do I go by myself? Do we go together? Does he go alone? I'm not really modest about things, but I have zero experience with shopping at these places. I don't want to feel intimidated, but I don't want to order online and have no clue of what I'm buying. Even when I'm shopping for vanilla, everyday things I like to see them. I like to examine other options and compare.

We rarely have time alone together, but is it worth it to get a sitter and go to a store? We are actually going to a big city tomorrow together to a NFL game!! I'm so excited. We haven't been in a while, I was pregnant or had a brand-newborn last football season, so that wasn't an option. Maybe I should google a store near there and try to go by after the game? I don't know if he'd be up for that, though.

If we were to go, what do we even look at?! I don't even know where to start. I've read many posts about how implements are different for different couples; that one thing isn't as painful or severe for some as it is others. I don't know. So many options and not many places to go near me.

I guess any and all advice is appreciated! :)

Xo!
Elle

  2. Our implements have come from all over. Some things we already had, some were bought at Walmart, one was bought at an adult store and a couple were purchased online from an implement store.

If you're just starting out, I would suggest starting with the simple stuff like a wooden spoon or belt.

    1. We've done the belt.. I think it's hard for him to control. He ends up striking the same exact spot. =\ but I think I am going to experiment with the spoon & hairbrush. I need those items anyway!! :) thanks!!

  3. Hiya Elle & Fireman,
Specialty shops can be pricey. When you're starting out and learning your tolerance levels, it's a good idea to begin with hand and then move on to lighter implements first. If you want to have something to experiment with that's a little more "thuddy" (heavy),I would suggest somewhere like Walmart where you can find a long handled wooden bath brush for about $4. If you look at a hairbrush or wooden spoon there, make sure to find one that is FLAT and preferably solid over hollow.
And if your HoH goes to a Dom Depot... (ummm, Home Depot) or other hardware style store, they give away long (5 gallon) paint stir sticks for something with more of a "stingy" touch. Have your Fireman sand the edges before using.
Whatever you decide, start slowly with Experimental Spanking Sessions that are used for learning and communicating more then any kind of Disciplinary Action.
Save up, and for your 1 year DDaversary, I would suggest going out together and enjoy picking out something special that you're sure you'll have long term :)

I definitely don't want to spend a lot, especially on something we may end up hating. I will pass along your suggestions!
And I love the 1 year idea! :)

  4. Elle, here are some suggestions. a hand, hairbrush , or wooden spoon can be found in your house. A ping pong paddle maybe found at a sporting goods store. A dowel stick that can be used as a cane, can be found at a hardware store. Birchrods, at a gardening store. I hope I have been some help.

  5. I would watch the long-handled bathbrush. We got one, and it is the only implement that has ever skinned me out - it's rough, uneven wood on the back. If you have even a small budget - www.cane-iac.com/ has good quality toys at very reasonable prices.

As far as pervertibles, Target has some really lovely reasonable bamboo spoons, belts, hairbrushes (look in the ethnic hair care section for the "Wave" solid wood brush - ironically called "The Enforcer"), other than that, there are all kinds of things you can make, using co-ax cable, rope and window spline. If you'd like some how tos you can e-mail me, and also Conina has a tutorial for rope toys on her blog (http://exploringsurrender.blogspot.com/p/making-flogger.html).

  6. Whatever you do.. do NOT let your HOH buy a rubber ruler... like EVER.... *(shudder)*
We have His hand of course, a flat back hair brush, wooden spoons (yuck), belts (no thanks), His hand again... and this horrible slotted spoon. He has threatened to get a ping pong paddle at Walmart (hey, they are only 4 bucks!) and I have been successful in hiding any rubber/flexi rulers that were lying around in the school supply box!

  7. I would check out the store close to you- even if you don't purchase anything you might get some ideas and definitely check out the hardware store, it's Mr. D's favorite place to "shop."

  8. DIY stores, homeware marts, value-dollar stores all carry stuff that you can put to kinky use even if they weren't intended for it. our first implement was a rubber icing spatula (long and straight not the kind with a squarish head) and then later a wooden spoon, hairbrush from The Body Shop, also a long handled bathbrush but that's not a regular. cos it's actually hanging in the bathroom.

his belt(s) and after that they get quite inventive with buying stuff to re-purpose.

    good luck,.

  9. We have discussed looking in Adult shops too, but have no idea on how, when or what either!

When we go shopping, we seem to have a subconscious scanner out for anything that looks remotely like a 'good spanking' implement.

We have the wooden spoon for warm up (though sometimes it feels more than a warm up) Also the belt, that The Silence also has a hard time controlling.
We did have a homemade paddle..that he broke while spanking, and a wooden hairbrush, that he broke while spanking (I have a cast iron butt apparently)
We now have homemade switches or canes, from an Olive tree, which works well, they are varying thickness's.
AND...he has just made a home made Loopy Johnny ..which we have yet to use, but he got sick of things that were wooden breaking all the time.
He makes a lot of our own implements...

Then of course there is Mr Glue...but seriously..you don't want to go there!

    Good luck..and I agree...hide any rubber rulers!!!

    1. No I read about mr glue on your blog! I don't want that either, lol!! I'm going to be on the lookout for things we can use. Sometimes it takes me a minute to be creative! Lol :)

  10. Yes, just keep your eyes open for useful things when you are out shopping. Several have already advised a wooden spoon, and I will add that a slotted one is more effective; if you are in reach of suitable trees, bushes, a switch may be cut and trimmed 30 to 36 inches long, no thicker than a man's little finger at the thick end, and that WILL be effective (quiet, too), but soon dries out and then cannot be re-used. I advise against a dowel rod or garden bamboo as they are not flexible enough and may break/split. 36 inches of 3/8" handle cane from a craft shop is good: soak the business end in water an hour or two if more effectiveness is required, that helps it to wrap around the curve of the buttock and distributes the pain more evenly.

  11. Hi Elle! In reply to your "Where do you get your implements?" I have to tell you that I just had a good look around the house to begin with. The thing is, we mostly just use Starman's hand which, believe me, can be very effective! Because I love to cook I have two stone jars in the kitchen full to brimming with wooden spoons and spatulas of all shapes and sizes. I picked one that was very light weight and thin and Starman now homes in on the horrid thing for our maintenance sessions. He keeps it in a drawer in the bedroom and out it comes every time! It is some kind of small, old-fashioned butter paddle, but believe me, it is much more painful than a wooden spoon! And it bruises and the edges although sanded down still manage to leave marks.

In the UK we have countrywide stores called Ann Summers. I know that they send stuff overseas so you could google them and look at their stock. We have a 'beginner's paddle' which is candy pink leather and pretty to look at. Starman hasn't really got the technique with it yet but I feel comfortable with it (although I can easily understand that if it were used for real discipline it would hurt a lot more!)and it doesn't bruise me. We also have a 'play' crop from the same shop, which is light weight and has a leather loop at one end and is furry and feathery at the other end. Starman prefers the feathery end - but I won't go there... We have a perspex 18" ruler from the office which hurts like hell and we have only tried it for a couple or so swats. It sits in the drawer just in case. I swim a lot for exercise and it's important to me not to get too bruised. I've only just got rid of 'before Christmas' bruises due to the butter paddle and as exercise is important Starman has become a lot more careful and less 'thuddy'. He 'stings' more now instead. (It's a big learning curve!) A belt would horrify him, and he is doing so well that I don't want to put him off. We have lots of willow in the garden - but that horrifies me! Canes horrify me too, because I remember them being used on boys at school when I was young. I have to tell you that it is left to me to supply a mixture of implements; but Starman is the one who decides what to use, how hard and for how long. But as I haven't yet suffered a punishment spanking I cannot comment on that. We are still at the learning stage and have discovered that there are lots of other submission issues to concentrate on to begin with. So just maintenance for now. Sorry - I've written an essay! Many hugs, Ami

I'm horrified of canes too! I am scared of the real paddles, but I know he'll want to try them eventually. I get maintenance too, it's generally not bad. I've only gotten a handful of actual punishments.
I know we have to get a wooden spoon soon, too. Thanks for all your help!

  12. Here's what this newbie has found...The wooden spoon broke. WE have a wooden spatula which is effective AFTER the belt. Barney finds the belt at times hard to control...but he does shorten it quite a bit. If you look on cane-ac you can see some leather straps that you can turn a belt into.

The dowel works...stay away from the small plastic hanger! BUT avoid the silicon icing spreader like the plague ! ( I have a picture of it on my blog ) That is the only thing I can't stay in position for. Apparently that is to be for punishments...grrrrrr

I think that switching implements during works for me because I can zone out of the 'pain' if it is the same. I agree with everyone that said go to a regular store or look around the house- just not in the kid's closet...seriously hanger-bad.

Walmart here has a bamboo bath brush so it is smooth. Barney got if for Xmas..yes I am an idiot! I tried it on my leg....yikes.

Of course you are probably in the big city with your NFL jerseys on shopping in the sex store right now!

  14. Hi sweetie!
I'm a high maintenance gal - I don't want to be spanked with kitchen utensils - old belts, slippers or what ever is laying around.
We live in Europe - so we buy leather products at the London Tanners.
Just ordered a boudoir paddle - I put the link on my blog.
No canes or whips for me either! Just paddles made of natural leather.
    Works for us.
Perhaps they have a shop in the States. You could check it out!

Are you on a different part of google blogs? I'd love to read what you get up to. I must look up a 'boudoir paddle'. Sounds awesome. Hope they come in brown packages!! (giggle giggle)

  15. The implements in adult shops tend to be of cheap quality and not very effective. Cane-iac is a wonderful source of high-quality implements. They have a wide range of leather and wooden implements.

Visit an equestrian shop for riding crops and bats, or try horsetackco.com which is where I got our well-used dogging bat.
